History has shown that during a large event or disaster, traditional communications become saturated. Additionally, the mechanism for inter-departmental communication (i.e. Police to National Guard, National Weather Service and Red Cross) is problematic and difficult. This is where the Amateur Radio service and HAMs come into the picture. We train with the agencies who will respond in a disaster and provide inter-agency communications.
Kankakee Amateur Radio Emergency Service does this by working closely with federal, state, and local officials during event planning and execution to facilitate communications between departments and organizations.
Amateur Radio has its founding roots in public service. Amateur Radio Emergency Service, ARES is the nationally recognized public service organization whose mission is to protect life and property during events and emergencies.
This site is dedicated to providing resources to facilitate operations between amateur radio operators, public safety officials, served agencies and the general public.
